It’s Palooza Time! This week’s adventure is in an area just South of Safford, AZ and a little less explored than other areas, but definitely a fun place to pack up the Ranger and head out to. The drive includes an interesting look at massive power lines and then a drive up through desert and mountain roads that dead end at the foothills of Mt. Graham.
A quick overview of where we are going is — Ten Ranch Rd, Stagecoach Trail, and FR 662 to the base of Mt. Graham.
The starting point is Ten Ranch Road which is located on Hwy 191 in between I-10 and Safford. Closer to I-10 .

There is a watering area there where we parked the truck and unloaded the See-more the Ranger.

Ten Ranch Road is a very flat dirt road that leads straight into Stagecoach Trail Loop.

The loop has a few rocky areas that are no problem at all for a 4 wheel drive UTV.

The interesting thing about the loop is the power lines that stand tall along the road. There are a lot of them!

I think this loop should be called Power Line Loop instead of Stagecoach Trail 🙂
After looking at the power lines, head back on Ten Ranch Road and turn on Forest Road 662.

This road will head north. Take the first left turn toward the hills of Mt. Graham. You will see pretty little hills and desert cactus as you go.

And what would a Palooza be if we weren’t greeted by a herd of cattle along the way?

As the road progresses, the vegetation changes from the desert scrub brush to large trees and rocks.

We liked to stop every now and then and look at the scenery. Michelle really likes rocks and had to pick up a few and admire them.

We even took a little walk along the way and enjoyed the overhanging trees and interesting tree formations

The end of the trail, runs right into the rocky side of the mountain.

There was no way See-more was going to be able to climb that! So it was a good place to do a little bit of hiking and take a picture or two. Tom and I were happy to smile for the camera:)

Now, being at the end of a canyon makes it a bit tricky to turn around, but Rob didn’t have any problems at all!

It was a wonderful day in the desert. We had a lovely time followed by some delicious pizza at R&R Pizza Express in Safford. YUM!!
We hope you give this Palooza a try. Please let us know if you do.
