Walnut Canyon — Kearny, AZ

There is a place near Kearny, AZ called Walnut Canyon. It is a bit tricky to find, and to be honest, we were never quite positive we took the “right” road. It didn’t matter though, I don’t think you can take a road anywhere near here that isn’t an Arizona desert delight:)

We drove to Superior on Hwy 60 and took the exit onto Hwy 171 toward Kearny . We then took Battle Axe Road to start our Palooza adventure.

The road wound down into a pretty little Canyon with cliffs and trees, but it didn’t stay in the canyon for long.

Most of this drive was out of the canyon and through the desert.

While the scenery wasn’t as diverse as some of our previous paloozas, it was absolutely beautiful. The cacti were spectacular.

And the mountain cliffs were all around us. They were the perfect backdrop to the grand saguaros.

This happy cliff looked like it was smiling out on the valleys below…

On every Palooza, we are greeted by a friendly cow or two. The grazing land didn’t look as nourishing as some of the other places we have been. But this cow didn’t seem to mind.

Sometimes we see deer, coatimundi, or wild turkeys, but on this desert drive, we were lucky enough to spot a few friendly tarantulas crossing the road! We of course had to stop and say hello:).

I don’t know if Michelle would have been so brave if it hadn’t have been cold enough to wear gloves…. lol!

Speaking of weather, the Arizona heat can be brutal in the summer. We highly recommend waiting until the fall or winter to enjoy this drive.

We may even have to try this drive again in the spring when the cacti are all in bloom with their yellow and red flowers. I can just imagine the orange and yellow poppies as well.

Thank you for stopping by and joining us on our Polaris Palooza. We hope you have a wonderful day!
